Maria Sutera has over ten years experience as a ballet, Jazz and Tap dancer. She is renown in Melbourne for her sharp spins and tight spotting technique, well honed over years of classical training, but also her ability to break down the points required for achieving fast multiple spins with absolutely clean finishes. In her spinning, what sets Maria apart is her ability to both achieve slow single turns beautifully, as well as fly through triple and quadruple spins with hardly any work from the man leading her. In fact, Maria’s spinning technique is so lauded that in Singapore 2007, she taught a spinning workshop with Sharon Pakir to a sellout class.
Having placed twice in national aerobic championships in Australia, Maria understands what it takes to be an amazing performer as well as dancer, and seeks to impart her love for clean lines and elegance to the students she teaches. She is always aware of lead and follow techniques, and is patient in achieving results with students. An enthusiastic teacher and performer, Maria keeps the team lighthearted and laughing all the time.
In 2005, Maria was asked by Sharon Pakir to be her solo dance partner in a performance at the 2005 Sydney Salsa Festival and the 2006 Sydney Salsa Congress. Performing convincingly to a male-costumed Sharon, she brought the house down with her amazing stage presence. Maria is recognized as one of Melbourne’s top female dancers, and dances effectively both on1 and on2. Maria has been on Sharon’s professional teams for 2 years now, performing at the 2007 Sydney Salsa Congress as well as at numerous events around Melbourne. In 2007, Maria travelled with the pro team to Singapore where she had her own workshop in Spinning and Spotting, as well as to the Korean Salsa Congress to perform.
